Specific Skills
- A current student (penultimate or final year preferred) or recent graduate in a related field.
- Genuine interest in healthcare operations or medical billing coursework in health informatics, coding, or healthcare finance is an advantage.
- Confident communicator both verbally and in writing. You ask smart questions, give clear updates, and follow up without being prompted.
- Detail-oriented with strong organizational habits and the discipline to manage tasks accurately under real deadlines.
- Comfortable with Microsoft Office tools, particularly Excel, and eager to learn new platforms quickly.
- A team player with enough self-awareness to know what you don't know — and the initiative to find out.
Responsible For
- Support the team in submitting and tracking prior authorization requests across commercial, Medicare, and Medicaid payers.
- Conduct verification of benefits (VOB) under supervision, learning to identify coverage nuances that affect authorization and billing.
- Maintain and update authorization logs, ensuring records are accurate, organized, and current.
- Research payer-specific authorization requirements and coverage criteria, building a working knowledge of how different insurers operate.
- Compile supporting clinical documentation for authorization submissions and appeals as directed.
- Assist in producing authorization activity reports and summaries for internal review.
- Participate in team discussions and process improvement sessions, offering observations and contributing ideas with confidence.
- Learn to work with billing software, payer portals, and automation tools used in day-to-day operations.
